My name is Paula Zidonis and I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in June of 2006 at the age of 38. After learning that I would lose my hair due to chemotherapy, I had to prepare myself mentally because hair loss to me was very traumatic and devastating.
I discovered that wigs and hats were very uncomfortable and really didn't suit me but yet I wanted something more fashionable than a bandanna.
My mother, who has been a seamstress for many years, said "let's go to the fabric store and I'll make your scarves". She made scarves to match nearly every outfit in my closet.
During my chemotherapy sessions, I would get compliments on my head scarves and patients would ask me "where did you buy your scarf?" and that's when I knew there was a definite need for this product.
With the help of my mother, Survivor Scarfs, Etc. was launched in March of 2007. "From One Survivor To Another" became our motto.
Had I not lost my hair I would never have known the importance of using the proper fabric for our scarves. Fabrics made of silk and similar materials had a tendency to slide. For this reason we chose to make all our scarves out of cotton.
Each scarf is handmade by us in our Ohio location. We use only the finest cotton fabric. The scarves can be worn many different ways to suit your personal style in either short or long lengths. There are no two scarves alike so the measurements may vary slightly. The short scarves are approximately 16" W x 36" L and the long scarves are approximately 16" W x 72" L.
We hope you enjoy wearing them as much as we enjoy making them.
Please perform your breast self exams monthly and get your annual mammograms because early detection could save your life.
Stay strong, God Bless and remember life isn't about weathering the storm, it's about learning how to dance in the rain.
Sincerely - "From One Survivor To Another",
Paula
